「文化的暴力との戦い～村上春樹にみる平和のための言葉～」

先日、10月26日に開催された第４回JAMESの年次大会で発表した「文化的暴力との戦い～村上春樹にみる平和のための言葉～」を再度発表させていただきます。大会では20分程度の発表でしたが、今回は倍のお時間をいただき結果を詳細に報告させていただきます。著作ではなく、村上春樹の寄稿やスピーチを３点選び（2003, 2009, 2012）、使用言語や時代・事例による差異をおさえるとともに、彼が平和のために言葉をどのように積み重ねてきたのか、Potter (1996)が提示する社会的現実の構築手段（Categorization/Ontological gerrymandering 、Extrematization/Minimization、Normalization/Abnormalization）に照らし合わせ、平和や共生に向けて一貫した村上のディスコース戦略なるものが存在するのかについて分析・検証します。

Overview of René Girard’s Mimetic Theory, with a Consideration of the Implications for Media

This presentation will overview René Girard’s Mimetic Theory. At the root of Girard’s thought is the concept of “mimesis” (roughly, imitation) or “mimetic desire.” Girard takes a radically interpersonal view of human psychology and behavior. His influential but controversial theory focuses strongly on the problematic nature of human relations, on interpersonal conflict, and on violence. Another term Girard uses for ” mimesis” is “mediation.” The role of the “model” or “mediator” in Girard ‘s thought may be of special interest for media studies. Girard’s work concerns “media” at its most fundamental level (his “mimetic triangle”), but also takes into account the “media frenzy” that characterize the current age. Girard would relate this to what he calls “internal mediation” and see it as part of a process that has been accelerating especially since the Renaissance.
