日本メディア英語学会中部地区は、以下の次第で第81回研究例会をオンラインで開催いたします。
「中部」地区としていますが、地理的な縛りはありませんので、どの地域の方でも、また現在のところ非会員の方で本学会の活動に関心がある方や入会を検討されている方でも、どなたでも大歓迎です。

発表タイトル：健康問題に関してのデジタル・リテラシーに内在する対立
•発表要旨：今日、ソーシャルメディアを避けて生活することはほとんど不可能である。この現実は、「デジタル・ネイティブ」にとって重要である。デジタル環境を効果的に理解し、適応していく必要がある。健康問題に関するデジタル・リテラシーの特性に焦点を当て、その向上への手がかりを明らかにする。SNSを通じて健康情報が入手可能であることは、それが無条件に受け入れられることを必ずしも意味しない。むしろ人々は、利便性は高いが信頼性に欠ける情報に依存するのではなく、信頼できる情報源による検証を必要とする。

・発表タイトル：From Sectarian Symbols to Viral Slogans: Media, Language and the Racialisation of Loyalist Siege Narratives in Northern Ireland
・発表要旨：Racism in Northern Ireland is not a new phenomenon. However, Loyalist anti-immigrant sentiment in the region, often seen as a reflection of their ‘siege mentality,’ has been gaining traction in recent years, as it aligns with the broader resurgence of right-wing populism and nativism in other parts of the world, including the United States, Great Britain, and the Republic of Ireland. This convergence has contributed to the normalisation of exclusionary rhetoric, lending legitimacy to anti-immigrant discourse and fuelling racism. This presentation examines how the wider right-wing populist rhetoric is appropriated within Loyalist discourse, and how their nativism is amplified through traditional and social media, using Fairclough’s three-dimensional model to analyse textual strategies, discursive practices, and socio-political context. Samples were sourced from media reports by regional and national news outlets as well as from social media posts. Public social media content, on X and TikTok, was used only where it had already entered the public domain through mainstream media reports and public circulation.

・発表タイトル：The effects of gender on variable use of creole features in English-based creoles
•発表要旨：Gender differences have been widely explored in sociolinguistics over the past decades. However, the role of gender in the use of creole features was not extensively studied. With the new analysis of variable use of TMA markers in Hawai‘i Creole, the effects of gender in creole speaking communities are discussed in the context of gender differences in language contact situations.
