Commitment: Part-time (a few hours per month between September 2025 and May 2026, 30 hours/week during the program dates, mid-June to mid-July 2026)

About ieiMedia
The Institute for Education in International Media (ieiMedia) offers study-abroad experiences for student journalists and aspiring media professionals. Our summer programs immerse English-speaking students (mostly from North America) in local cultures while providing professional training in reporting, storytelling, and multimedia production. PROGRAM OVERVIEW
In Summer 2026, ieiMedia will launch a journalism study-abroad program in Kyoto, Japan. Students will explore Kyoto’s culture, communities, and current issues while producing feature stories, profiles, and multimedia projects. The Program Coordinator will play a critical role in helping students connect with the city, identify compelling stories, and access local sources.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a resourceful bilingual Program Coordinator to support the development and implementation of our Kyoto program. This person will act as a bridge between our journalism faculty and students and the Kyoto community, helping to ensure the success of the program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Program (Fall 2025-Spring 2026, a few hours per month):
* Assist with program preparation and logistics (venue coordination, local contacts, and other arrangements).
* Compile lists of community resources, local summer events and potential story ideas and sources
* Identify and research providers for tours and activities (cooking lessons, visits to markets, walking tours, etc.)
* Build relationships with cultural institutions, media organizations and individuals who could serve as sources or guides for student journalists.

During Program (mid-June to mid-July, 25–30 hours/week):
* Mentor and guide student journalists in brainstorming and refining story topics.
* Help arrange and facilitate interviews with local experts, residents, and officials.
* Provide on-the-ground translation and interpretation support when needed; help find other bilingual people who can serve as interpreters
* Assist with navigating Kyoto (transportation, cultural etiquette, insider knowledge).
* Serve as a cultural and linguistic resource, ensuring smooth communication between students and the community.
* Assist director in program logistics

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
* Fluency in both Japanese and English (speaking and writing).
* Strong familiarity with Kyoto—its culture, neighborhoods, institutions, and people.
* Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Creative and resourceful—able to help students uncover unique, authentic stories
* Ability to work independently and as part of a small international team.

Preferred:
* Experience in study abroad, tourism, and/or journalism.
* Background working with students or young adults, ideally in an educational setting.
Compensation
Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience.
